In our last communication did you have to wear your magnifying specs and ..... ‘What is an ‘a’ and an ‘o’ between friends I ask you???’ I am sure that Jupiter, with a capitol ‘J’ will forgive me this once??
Following on from yesterday’s comments about the Coventry Half Marathon, it has to be asked ‘Where was the flat fast course that was advertised?’ ‘What happened to the ‘Lady Godiva’ in the ‘Lady Godiva Half Marathon’, one of the previous races’ selling points?? Sell Coventry by using it’s history surely? I do hope that the organisers have sent a letter of apology to the runners, including the leaders, who went wrong through lack of marshals. Not a nice thing to happen. A turning point in a race should be ‘bleeding obvious’ as they say. Perhaps the council chief executive and the councillor who both ran will get together and get the race sorted. Let us hope that the contract signed with the promotions company is not too long term. Did the promoters pay the council and not the other way round as I suspected?
Looking at the field of joggers it was interesting to see the conservatism, with a small ‘c’, of the gear they wear. Sombre. Dull even. Go to any cycle race, or see cyclists out bicycling along on a Sunday morning and they are a kaleidoscope of colour. Big commercial break for you there Blog. Get the bright colourful gear out to the joggers and retire when you sell your successful sports clothing business. A few years ago, well twenty years actually, Ron Hill had the right idea. His racers and spikes stood out in a crowd ... all bright swirls and splashes. Some of his kit also. But he was ahead of his time. He was fighting (unsuccessfully) years of conservatism in the sport; a reticence to be different. Now he wouldn’t be able to sell the stuff fast enough as there is nothing out there that is flashy. The established firms dare not take the chance to tool up and invest in a chancy venture of bright gear in case of financial failure. So Blog. I design, you sell and we’ve cracked it. Our next problem is what to do with all the quids we make. I’ll pop out for a trudge now and let you know what I have come up with when I get back. If I do intervals it will give me time to think in the recovery phase.
